The Potter’s Field

Text: Matthew 27:6-10 & Acts 1:18-19

This is a message for everyone broken, wounded or in a way feel that part of their lives has been a struggle.

  • We all have struggles, and even everyone in the household of faith has some struggles or weaknesses but that does not give the ground to failure.
When we surrender and turn in our weakness to Jesus through the Holy Spirit, then he exchanges his strength for our weakness fulfilling the scripture in our lives which says” My grace is sufficient for thee, for my strength is made perfect in your weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
  • According to Act 1:18-19; the Potter’s Field represents the present the world, whiles the broken pottery and the dead corpse in the Potter’s field represent our individual lives in the world today. Some of us are broken due to problems we face in life which have led to shattered, broken and tattered lives beyond recognition. Our lives are just like the broken pieces of pottery scattered everywhere in the field. We have even lost the recognition of their innocence and favor we had when we were children.
  • The favor, beauty, charm and the future aspirations we had when we were children are all gone, and we don’t know what happened. We were loved, everyone called us cute, adorable, angel and in some cases we were referred to as “Christmas presents” by our parents, however all has disappeared. We have been dumped just like the broken pottery has been dumped into the field and no one wants to hear our side of the story. Some of us have been classified as deviants from the natural norm of society.
  • We feel betrayed, violated and abused to the point where in some cases we been treated and look on like slaves. No one believes us anymore due to the many mistakes we made in the past. Well you have and may be saying “I have tried to kick away the habit but I keep failing and nobody takes me serious even when I genuinely want to turn my life around.
  • Some of us have given up HOPE and feel this is our lives will remain until we pass away. Everywhere I look, I see broken people, people with past negative experiences.
  • Well, there is NOBODY on this planet without a troubled past. Some of us pretend to have never had any troubled past just to make those who have admitted to have had a trouble past and willing to make a change feel guilty and condemned. The bible said” He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; but whosoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy” Proverbs 28:13.
  • There is good news; the money Judas Iscariot was given by the priesthood to betray Jesus was returned back to the priesthood. This money was termed “blood money” by the priesthood. It is this Blood money the priesthood, used to legally purchase the potter’s field and named it Aceldama (the field of blood). This field was used a burial site for strangers (strangers to the covenant of God). The purchase of the field with the blood money made Jesus the legal owner of the potter’s field (Aceldama).
  • Isn’t it amazing that Jesus told a parable of a hidden treasure in a field? He said “ the Kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hid in a field, which when a man hath found he hides and for joy thereof, goeth and selleth all that he hath and buyeth the field”.
You are part of the broken pottery scattered and dead corpse buried in the field which is the Lord called “Treasure”.
